JAKARTA, JurnalPost.com — The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) has received an award from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) for its contributions to strengthening cybersecurity and national data protection.
The award was presented during the National Statistics Day (HSN) 2026 Awards Night held in Jakarta on Saturday evening (26/9/2026).
Head of BPS RI Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti presented the award directly to the Head of BSSN, Nugroho Sulistyo Budi.
The event was also attended by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Friderica Widyasari Dewi, and Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) Anggito Abimanyu.
The award recognizes BSSN's contribution to building a cybersecurity foundation that supports the protection of the integrity, validity, and resilience of national statistical data.
The advancement of digitalization has made statistical management increasingly dependent on electronic systems. This condition simultaneously increases the need for data protection, especially as strategic government information is collected, stored, and utilized across various digital platforms.

Head of BSSN Nugroho Sulistyo Budi stated that government digitalization must go hand-in-hand with strengthening cybersecurity systems.
“In accordance with the President's directive, government digitalization is an absolute necessity. However, behind this transformation and the digital economy, there must be a strong foundation: cybersecurity and encryption. This award is tangible proof of the dedication of the entire BSSN team in safeguarding and overseeing the national data ecosystem, including supporting the implementation of the One Data Indonesia initiative to ensure it remains free from cyber threats,” said Nugroho.
According to him, the more extensive the use of technology in government and digital economic activities, the greater the need to ensure that strategic data and systems are protected from various cyber threats.
Data security has become a vital element in maintaining statistical quality. Accurate data depends not only on the collection and processing stages but also on the system's ability to maintain information integrity from the moment it is collected until it is used as a basis for policy-making.
In this context, BSSN and BPS have interrelated roles. BPS is responsible for organizing national statistics, while BSSN is tasked with cybersecurity and encryption.
The collaboration between the two agencies is expected to strengthen the protection of various strategic government data, including data gathered through the Economic Census and other sectoral databases.
HSN 2026 itself carries the theme “Quality Statistics for a Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.”
This theme positions data quality as a foundation for policy formulation and development planning. However, amidst the increasingly massive digital transformation, data quality cannot be separated from the security of the systems used to manage it.

BSSN stated that it will continue to strengthen its collaboration with BPS to ensure that the instruments for collecting and managing the nation's strategic data operate within a protected cyber space.
Cross-agency cooperation is considered increasingly important because current government data management involves many interconnected systems. Disruptions to one system can affect the integrity and continuity of information utilization.
The award at HSN 2026 also serves as a reminder that the government's digital transformation is not just about accelerating services or utilizing new technology.
Behind these processes, a security system is required that can keep strategic information safe, valid, and trustworthy.
With the government's growing reliance on digital technology, strengthening cybersecurity has become a crucial part of maintaining the sustainability of the One Data Indonesia initiative and the various information systems used to support national development.
