Maros, JurnalPost.com — The use of Precision Interlock Bricks (BIP) is being introduced for housing construction in South Sulawesi. This construction technology is claimed to accelerate the home-building process to just about one month, significantly shorter than conventional methods which can take four to five months.
President Director of PT Semen Tonasa, Anis, shared this during the inauguration of a house built with Precision Interlock Bricks at the Sunrise City housing complex in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, on Saturday (3/10/2026).
According to Anis, the term Precision Interlock Brick refers to the high level of accuracy in the shape and size of the material, which is a key characteristic of the product.
“Praise be to God, today we inaugurate the BIP house using Precision Interlock Bricks. Why did SIG name it Precision Interlock Brick? Perhaps because while this may not be the only interlock brick product in Indonesia, it is likely the only one that is highly precise,” said Anis.
The house inaugurated in Sunrise City is noted as one of the first housing projects in South Sulawesi to utilize this interlock brick technology.
Construction Time Claimed to be Shorter
One of the advantages offered by BIP is efficiency in construction time. Anis compared it to building a house using conventional methods, which he noted can take about four to five months.
With interlock materials and construction workers who have received training, the work process is claimed to be cut to about one month.
“As we can see behind us, subsidized housing types might take four to five months to build. But God willing, by using Precision Interlock Bricks and well-trained construction workers, one house can be completed in at most one month,” he said.
However, construction speed is naturally influenced by several factors, ranging from the size and design of the house, the number of workers, material readiness, to field conditions.
Beyond time, the use of this method is also expected to reduce some construction costs, particularly those related to labor duration.
According to Anis, labor costs are one of the largest components in the home-building process.
“Imagine, one of the biggest costs in building a house is the labor cost. So if we can cut more than 50 percent of labor costs, God willing, we are also helping the government's program to ensure people can afford and own homes,” he explained.
Semen Tonasa Supplies Materials for Eastern Indonesia
Anis stated that the development of Precision Interlock Bricks is part of SIG's effort to provide alternative construction technologies and materials for the housing sector.
Semen Tonasa, which is part of SIG, plays a role in supplying cement materials, particularly for the Eastern Indonesia region. The production of interlock bricks is carried out in collaboration with business units and partners in the concrete sector.
“We at Semen Tonasa, as part of Semen Indonesia, serve Eastern Indonesia. Together with the concrete business units that produce these, we are part of the cement production in South Sulawesi,” said Anis.
He hopes that this technology will eventually be used in more construction projects in South Sulawesi and the Eastern Indonesia region.
The inauguration was also attended by the President Director of PT Nusantara Land Development Tri Wijaya, representatives of developers and property business players, PT Varia Usaha Beton, the management of PT Semen Tonasa, and local village officials.
Developer Targets Modern Home Concept
President Director of PT Nusantara Land Development, Tri Wijaya, said the application of Precision Interlock Bricks in Sunrise City is combined with a modern residential design concept.
According to him, several house designs were developed with inspiration from residential architecture in Europe.
“The models are similar to houses in Milan, houses in Europe that are very exclusive. This is what we are trying to present here. It is an honor for us to be the first house in Sulawesi to feature a home with SIG's precision interlock brick material,” he said.
Tri said Maros Regency was chosen because of its location near Makassar and the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport. The area is also considered to be developing as a buffer zone for the city of Makassar.
“I chose Maros because this is one of our housing projects closest to Makassar. The location is also near Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, and Maros is becoming a supporting city for Makassar,” he said.
According to him, the developer wants to provide alternative construction materials with maintained quality but more efficient construction costs.
“We are presenting different materials with good quality but at a lower price,” he said.
Opportunity for Application in Subsidized Housing
The use of Precision Interlock Bricks is also being considered for the construction of subsidized housing.
However, Tri said that the plan is still in the design stage and has not been implemented on a large scale.
“In the future, we will try to think about and create one of our housing complexes in another location that can apply this for subsidized housing. We are currently designing it, hopefully, it can be like that in the future,” he said.
If the application of this technology can consistently provide efficiency in time and cost, interlock bricks have the potential to become an alternative housing construction method, especially amid the continuously increasing demand for housing.
Its effectiveness in large-scale projects will ultimately depend on the readiness of the workforce, material supply, construction standardization, and cost calculations compared to conventional construction methods.
