MALANG, JurnalPost.com – A community service team from Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) has introduced an innovative STEAM-based learning tool, the ElectroRace Kit, to help improve the quality of science (IPA) education at MTs Sunan Kalijogo.
This innovation was introduced through the Universitas Negeri Malang Internal Funding Community Service Program for the year 2026 titled “ElectroRace Kit: Innovative STEAM-Based Science Learning Media to Address Media Limitations at MTs Sunan Kalijogo.”
The program targets ninth-grade students and science teachers with the goal of providing a more interactive, engaging, and accessible learning experience through hands-on practical activities.
The introduction of the ElectroRace Kit serves as an effort to address the limitations of learning media, particularly for science topics that require teaching aids and experimental activities.
Through the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), students are encouraged to connect scientific concepts with technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics during the learning process.
Handover of the ElectroRace Kit to the School
The implementation of this community service program took place in two stages. The first stage was conducted on September 12, 2026, with the handover of the ElectroRace Kit to MTs Sunan Kalijogo.
This handover served as an initial step in introducing alternative learning media that teachers can use to support classroom teaching and learning activities.

The ElectroRace Kit is designed as a practice-based learning tool so that students do not only study science concepts through theoretical explanations but also have the opportunity to explore the material directly.
By using more interactive learning media, it is hoped that students can improve their understanding of the material while developing an interest in studying science.
Ninth-Grade Students Practice Using the ElectroRace Kit
The second stage was carried out on September 19, 2026, through implementation and evaluation activities for the use of the ElectroRace Kit with students and science teachers at MTs Sunan Kalijogo.
The activity began with a briefing on the functions and usage of the tool. The service team then provided a demonstration before inviting ninth-grade students to participate in hands-on practice.
Science teachers were also involved in the activity so they could understand how to utilize the ElectroRace Kit and integrate it into daily learning processes.
Through practical activities, students had the opportunity to explore science concepts with a more concrete approach.
STEAM-based learning also provides space for students to develop critical thinking skills, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
This approach is expected to help create a learning atmosphere that is not only centered on delivering material but also encourages active student engagement.
Evaluation for Sustainable Learning Development
In addition to introducing and implementing the ElectroRace Kit, the service team also conducted an evaluation of the program's execution.
The evaluation aimed to determine the success of the activities and gain insight into the school's response to the use of the provided learning media.
The results of the evaluation are expected to serve as a basis for developing and refining the use of the ElectroRace Kit so that it can be used sustainably in science learning.
Thus, the benefits of the service activity do not end after the program's implementation but can continue to be felt by teachers and students through the use of the learning media.
Collaboration Between Universitas Negeri Malang Lecturers and Students
This community service program was carried out by a team from Universitas Negeri Malang consisting of Erni Yulianti, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., Eka Nurul Qomaliyah, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Rini Anggi Arista, S.Pd., M.Si.
The activity also involved three students: Selvina Nur Afidya, Eriska Dwijayanti, and Rayhan Nurlaudzan.
The collaboration between lecturers, students, and the school serves as a synergy between higher education and educational units in providing solutions to learning needs.
This program is part of the Community Service under the Community Partnership Program (PKM) scheme for the year 2026 with Letter Number 14.04.1768/UN32.14.1/PM/2026, which was funded through an internal grant from Universitas Negeri Malang.
In addition to supporting educational innovation, this activity is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 regarding quality education and SDG 17 regarding partnerships for the goals.
Through this program, Universitas Negeri Malang hopes that the ElectroRace Kit can become an alternative learning medium that helps improve the quality of science education at MTs Sunan Kalijogo.
The cooperation between the university and the school is also expected to continue growing so that learning innovations can be utilized sustainably to support the strengthening of student competencies in the 21 century.
