MOJOKERTO, JurnalPost.com — Student learning experiences are not limited to classroom activities but are also gained through direct involvement in the professional world. This is the experience of Khoirun Nisa, a Public Administration student at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) “Veteran” East Java, who is currently interning at the Organization Division of the Mojokerto Regency Regional Secretariat.

Through this program, Khoirun Nisa has the opportunity to gain a closer look at government administrative processes, particularly in organizational management, regional apparatus performance evaluation, and efforts to improve the quality of public services.

This internship serves as a bridge between academic knowledge and practical work within a government environment. Various public administration concepts previously studied in lectures can now be observed firsthand through activities conducted at the government agency.

During the internship, the student also gains experience interacting with government officials, understanding coordination mechanisms between parties, and participating in various administrative tasks that fall under the responsibilities of the Organization Division.

Involved in Public Service Evaluation

One of the experiences gained during the internship is involvement in activities related to the Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Service Performance (PEKPPP).

This activity is a crucial part of understanding how the government assesses the implementation of public services, including the process of gathering information and verifying the documents required for evaluation.

Additionally, the student participates in data processing and updating for the Community Satisfaction Index (IKM) through the Sukma E-Jatim system.

Managing community satisfaction data is an aspect closely related to evaluating the quality of public services. The information obtained can serve as a consideration for agencies to identify areas where service improvements are needed.

In carrying out these tasks, the student receives guidance from Organization Division staff to assist with various duties according to the agency's needs.

These activities include checking document completeness, processing data, organizing administrative information, and providing support for public service evaluation activities.

Through this involvement, the student gains insight into the stages of work that must be completed before information can be used as evaluation material.

This experience also demonstrates that government administrative activities are not just about document management but also play a role in supporting performance assessment processes and improving services for the public.

Understanding Government Governance Up Close

For Public Administration students, internships provide an opportunity to understand the relationship between governance theory and its implementation in daily work.

Within the Organization Division of the Mojokerto Regency Regional Secretariat, task execution requires coordination, precision, communication skills, and responsibility in completing assignments.

The student can also observe how tasks are delegated and how each administrative activity relates to the functions of government organization.

This experience serves as a lesson on the importance of accurate information management, especially when data is used as a basis for evaluating public service delivery.

Precision in checking documents and updating data is one of the aspects that receives significant attention while working at the agency.

Beyond technical skills, the internship provides experience in adapting to the government work culture, including understanding supervisor directives, communicating with staff, and following established work mechanisms.

These skills serve as preparation for students to face the professional environment after completing their education.

Bridging Lecture Theory with Field Practice

The internship at the Organization Division also demonstrates that an understanding of public administration cannot be gained solely through conceptual learning.

In practice, government administration involves various work stages that require cooperation between parties and the ability to adapt to conditions in the field.

Through this experience, the student can see firsthand how evaluation activities, data management, and organizational administration are part of the government process.

Involvement in these activities helps the student develop skills relevant to their field of study, ranging from information management and organizational communication to an understanding of administrative procedures.

On the other hand, the experience of working alongside government officials provides insight into the responsibilities inherent in every job within a public agency.

Strengthening Ties Between Universities and Regional Governments

The presence of UPN “Veteran” East Java students at the Mojokerto Regency Regional Secretariat is also a form of collaboration between universities and government agencies to support experience-based learning.

For students, the program opens opportunities to develop competencies through work directly related to their field of study.

Meanwhile, student involvement in administrative and evaluation activities can assist in the execution of various agency tasks under the direction of responsible staff.

Such collaboration is valuable in preparing university graduates to understand the needs and dynamics of the professional world.

The internship experience is also expected to encourage students to better understand the challenges of public service delivery while developing professional, disciplined, and responsible attitudes.

Through activities at the Organization Division of the Mojokerto Regency Regional Secretariat, the study of public administration is no longer limited to classroom theory but is understood through real-world experience within a bureaucratic environment.

This experience serves as preparation for students to increase their readiness to enter the workforce while understanding the importance of orderly, measurable government governance oriented toward improving the quality of public service.
