PURWOKERTO, JurnalPost.com – Students from the Master of Psychology Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) held a community service activity through an interactive outreach session at the Putra Muhammadiyah Orphanage in Purwokerto on Wednesday (28/10/2026).

The activity, themed “Rabbani Generation with Noble Character: Becoming Honest, Helpful, and Beneficial Individuals in Society and Careers,” aimed to instill values of honesty, social care, and the habit of helping others as part of early character formation.

The session began at 17.00 WIB with material presented in an educational and fun manner. The students combined audiovisual presentations, educational games (ice breaking), and interactive discussions to ensure participants could easily grasp the message.

This approach also provided space for the children to express their opinions, share experiences, and understand the application of moral values in daily life.

In addition to the presentation, the student team conducted evaluations using pre-tests and post-tests. Both instruments were used to measure the participants' understanding before and after the session, particularly regarding the importance of honesty and helpful behavior.

A representative from the student team explained that the activity focused on forming positive habits that can be applied consistently. The children were encouraged to understand that noble character is not just about knowledge, but must be manifested through concrete actions.

Some simple examples introduced to the participants included making it a habit to speak the truth, having the courage to admit mistakes, being open, and helping others regardless of their background.

The activity received a positive response from the management of the Putra Muhammadiyah Orphanage. One of the caregivers appreciated the concern shown by the UMP Master of Psychology students for the children's character education.

“We are very grateful and thankful for the concern shown by the UMP Master of Psychology students. This education on honesty and a culture of helping is crucial for the moral development of the children in the orphanage. We hope that the values learned today do not stop in the classroom but are truly manifested in their daily lives,” she said.

The participants' enthusiasm was evident throughout the event. The children participated in games, listened to the material, and engaged in discussions with the students in a friendly atmosphere.

One participant expressed their joy, noting that the material was delivered through non-monotonous activities.

“The activities were very exciting and not boring because there were games. From this event, I understand more that we must be honest in any situation and should not hesitate to help friends. I hope the students can visit again and hold an event like this,” they said.

Through this community service activity, UMP Master of Psychology students sought to implement their knowledge of developmental and personality psychology directly within the community.

The outreach is expected to be a step toward strengthening children's character education, particularly in building integrity, empathy, and social responsibility.

These values serve as essential preparation for the children as they interact with their environment, pursue their education, and eventually face life in society and the workforce.
