CEPU, JurnalPost.com — A total of 40 students from Pattimura University (Unpatti) Ambon, Maluku, are participating in an Occupational Health and Safety (O3) training and certification program organized by the Human Resources Development Center for Oil and Gas (PPSDM Migas) in Cepu, Central Java.
The program, which began on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, is part of an effort to enhance student competency while expanding access to energy sector training for universities in Eastern Indonesia.
During the program, students receive training on occupational health and safety aspects, which are critical competencies in the industrial world, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
After completing all training stages, participants are scheduled to take a competency certification exam in the O3 field they have studied.
Expanding Training Access to Eastern Indonesia
The Human Resources Development Coordinator at PPSDM Migas, Desy Kurnia Puspaningrum, stated that human resource competency development is a primary focus for the institution.
According to her, the opportunity to participate in training and certification should not be limited to universities located near energy industry hubs.
Students from various regions, including Maluku and other parts of Eastern Indonesia, also need access to skill-enhancement programs relevant to workforce requirements.
"PPSDM Migas is very concerned about the development of Indonesia's human resources and hopes to reach all regions across the country, including Ambon and other eastern areas," said Desy.
She explained that the presence of Unpatti Ambon students is a form of expanded collaboration between PPSDM Migas and higher education institutions.
Through this program, students are expected to gain practical skills that complement the academic knowledge acquired during their studies.
Competency Certification Adds Value for Graduates
In addition to training, competency certification is a vital component of the program organized by PPSDM Migas.
Certification is expected to provide added value for students entering the workforce, especially in industrial sectors that require personnel with technical skills and an understanding of workplace safety.
Desy noted that PPSDM Migas is open to collaborating with universities from all regions of Indonesia.
"We are very open to partnerships with universities across Indonesia to improve the quality of energy human resources and provide oil and gas competency certification for students. We hope that university graduates will have added value and be ready to compete on the global stage," she added.
Collaboration with universities is considered helpful in bridging the gap between industry competency requirements and campus learning processes.
As a result, students not only gain theoretical understanding but also have the opportunity to test their skills through the competency certification mechanism.
Boosting Student Readiness for the Industrial World
The O3 training program for Unpatti Ambon students also reflects the importance of workplace safety in developing professionals for the energy sector.
Understanding safety procedures, potential workplace hazards, and accident prevention measures is essential preparation before students enter the industrial environment.
Through the collaboration between PPSDM Migas and universities, competency development is expected to reach more students from various regions.
PPSDM Migas also offers opportunities for training, certification, and other service collaborations for government agencies, companies, schools, as well as public and private universities.
