JAKARTA, JurnalPost.com — Concern for the communities affected by the earthquake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has prompted the Manggarai Youth Alliance of Jakarta to hold a humanitarian action through fundraising at several protocol roads and traffic light areas in Jakarta.
The solidarity action was carried out following a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the Mbay region, Nagekeo Regency, NTT, on Saturday (August 15, 2026).
The earthquake tremors were also felt in several surrounding areas, including East Manggarai and other parts of Flores. A number of residents' houses were reported to have been damaged, forcing many affected people to leave their homes and stay in emergency evacuation shelters.
Amidst these conditions, Manggarai youths residing in Jakarta took the initiative to go directly to the streets to invite the public to help the disaster victims.
The humanitarian action was led by Isra Mihardi as the Chief Executive, accompanied by Iksan as the Deputy Chief Executive. Meanwhile, the field activities were coordinated by Ardiansah as the Field Coordinator, along with Sangkal.

During the activity, the participants carried donation boxes and greeted two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicle drivers who stopped at several intersections and traffic lights.
Ardiansah stated that the action is a form of concern from the Manggarai community in the diaspora for residents who are facing difficult situations due to the disaster.

"We cannot remain silent seeing our families in Flores facing difficult times after the earthquake. The long distance does not break our concern. Through this street action, we want to touch the hearts of road users in Jakarta to join hands in easing the burden on the refugees in the emergency shelters," said Ardiansah.
According to him, the concern of the Jakarta public for the action is quite high. A number of drivers were seen setting aside some of their income to help the people affected by the earthquake in Flores.
The funds collected will subsequently be distributed to families and residents in need in the disaster-affected areas in NTT.
The Manggarai Youth Alliance of Jakarta hopes that the collected aid can help meet the needs of the community while they are in evacuation shelters and simultaneously ease the burden on families whose homes were affected by the earthquake.

In addition to collecting aid, the activity is expected to strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation and solidarity between the Manggarai community in the diaspora and the wider public in helping residents who are facing disasters.
