PANGKALPINANG, JurnalPost.com – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at the University of Bangka Belitung (UBB) held a study program socialization and community service event at SMK Negeri 1 Pangkalpinang on Thursday (8/10/2026).

This activity is part of UBB's efforts to broaden students' perspectives on higher education and assist the younger generation in preparing for their future based on their interests, talents, and capabilities.

Carrying the theme “Strengthening the Competitiveness of the Younger Generation through Higher Education Literacy, Interest-Talent Exploration, and Introduction to Five New Study Programs at the University of Bangka Belitung”, this event provided students with the opportunity to learn about various educational options available after graduating from high school.

During the session, the FISIP UBB team introduced five new study programs: Communication Science, International Relations, Indonesian Language Education, Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn), and English Language Education.

The introduction of these five programs is expected to provide students with an overview of the academic fields available in higher education and serve as a reference for their future educational choices.

Encouraging Students to Identify Interests and Potential

In addition to introducing the study programs, the event emphasized the importance of higher education literacy and identifying personal potential while still in school.

Through direct interaction with lecturers, students gained information regarding study fields, opportunities for competency development, and the importance of preparing for changes in the educational and professional landscapes.

This understanding is considered crucial so that students do not choose higher education based solely on popularity, but rather align it with their individual interests, abilities, and future plans.

The event also served as a means to encourage students to develop critical thinking skills, build self-confidence, and increase their readiness to face competition at local, national, and global levels.

Involving Lecturers from Five Study Programs

The socialization involved several lecturers representing each of the study programs.

The team consisted of Robing, S.Hum., M.I.Kom., from the Communication Science Study Program; Kharis Kurnia, M.Si., from the International Relations Study Program; Hakim Prasasti Lubis, M.Pd., from the Indonesian Language Education Study Program; Tri Indrayati, M.Pd., from the PPKn Study Program; and Yuli Asmarani, S.Pd., M.Pd., from the English Language Education Study Program.

Each representative provided an introduction to the academic fields offered, allowing students to gain a broader understanding of alternative higher education paths.

The activity also involved Firyal Azmi Nailah, a student from the Sociology Study Program, as part of the FISIP UBB Media Team, who assisted with documentation and publication.

The involvement of students in this activity is a form of active participation by the academic community in supporting community service programs.

SMKN 1 Pangkalpinang Welcomes UBB Socialization Positively

The Deputy Principal for Public Relations at SMK Negeri 1 Pangkalpinang, Chandra Arnita, welcomed the socialization conducted by FISIP UBB.

According to her, the higher education introduction event plays an important role in helping students obtain broader information regarding opportunities to continue their studies after completing vocational school.

Information regarding study programs and personal development is also expected to be a valuable asset for students in planning their future according to their respective interests and talents.

The collaboration between the university and the vocational school is a positive step in building a sustainable relationship between higher education and secondary education.

Through such activities, students have the opportunity to interact directly with academics and gain an overview of the higher education environment.

Strengthening Collaboration in Education and Human Resource Development

For FISIP UBB, this socialization is not only a means to introduce new study programs but also part of a community service initiative oriented toward improving the quality of human resources.

Higher education is considered to have a vital role in equipping the younger generation with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability needed to keep pace with the times.

Therefore, providing information about higher education early on is expected to help students make more informed decisions after finishing secondary school.

FISIP UBB hopes this activity will increase student awareness of the importance of further education, broaden their knowledge of various disciplines, and build motivation to continue developing their personal capabilities.

Through collaboration with SMK Negeri 1 Pangkalpinang, the University of Bangka Belitung also strives to strengthen its role as an educational partner that supports the development of the younger generation's potential.

This effort is expected to contribute to preparing competent, adaptive, and competitive human resources, both to meet regional development needs and to face challenges at the national and global levels.
