Barru, JurnalPost.com — Barru Regent Andi Ina Kartika Sari is urging the Barru Tompo Jareng Heritage Community to immediately implement concrete programs to inventory, document, and preserve the heirlooms and historical artifacts still held by the public.
This was conveyed by Andi Ina while receiving an audience with the board of the Barru Tompo Jareng Heritage Community at the Barru Regent's Official Residence on Wednesday (30/9/2026).
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Tompo Jareng Heritage Community, Sarbini Dg Emba, affectionately known as Puang Thoke, explained the background of the community's formation and the programs they intend to carry out.
The community focuses on various heirlooms still kept by the people of Barru and passed down through generations, especially parewa bessi.
In addition to safeguarding these artifacts, the community aims to conduct inventorying, documentation, and research, as well as to uncover the stories and local knowledge associated with each item.
The Tompo Jareng board hopes these efforts can be synergized with the Barru Regency Government and relevant regional agencies.
During the audience, Sarbini Daeng Ngemba was accompanied by Vice Chairman Syaifullah, Secretary Amar, Deputy Secretary Mirwan, Treasurer Andi Srinono, and several other community board members.
The Barru Regent welcomed the formation of the community. According to Andi Ina, the local government is open to community-led movements with positive goals, including activities related to the preservation of regional history and culture.
However, she cautioned that the community's existence should not stop at the formation of an organization or activities that are merely ceremonial.
“Don't talk about the future yet. Now is the time to work,” Andi Ina asserted.
She requested that the planned programs be initiated so that the community's presence can yield concrete results and provide tangible benefits.
“For the existing organization, please carry out your programs. The local government is welcoming. Whatever can be collaborated on, we will collaborate on in line with government activities,” she said.
One task considered important is conducting an inventory of heirlooms still in the hands of the public.
This data collection is deemed necessary so that these historical objects can be well-documented, including information regarding their origins, history, owners, and the cultural values attached to them.
Andi Ina believes that heirlooms are not merely old objects passed down from previous generations. Behind these items lies a historical journey and the identity of the Barru people that must be protected.
Preservation efforts are also expected to prevent the loss of local knowledge that has been passed down orally from one generation to the next.
During the meeting, the Barru Regent was accompanied by the Head of the Barru Tourism, Creative Economy, Youth and Sports Office, M. Sukri, and the Head of the Culture Division of the Barru Education and Culture Office, Muhajir.
The Regent reiterated that community activities should have measurable targets and results, rather than just increasing the number of meetings.
The Barru Regency Government, she said, is ready to open space for collaboration if the programs have a clear direction and align with efforts to safeguard the region's history, culture, and identity.
“I hope it is not just ceremonial, but that there is visible, positive work,” she emphasized.
The presence of the Barru Tompo Jareng Heritage Community is expected to be a driving force in identifying and protecting historical heritage that has thus far been kept independently within the community.
