Bekasi Regency, JurnalPost.com – A painting is born from a child's imagination and is now being showcased in a professional gallery space. Ashoka Mahajanaka, a student at SD Don Bosco III Cikarang, is among the participants presenting a work titled The Night That Holds at the Kids Art Exhibition, part of the Indonesian Children’s Festival 2026 held at the R.J. Katamsi Gallery, ISI Yogyakarta.
The exhibition took place from 19 to 30 September 2026, featuring children's works as a form of expression for their ideas, creativity, and imagination through art.
The Night That Holds is an acrylic on canvas piece created by Ashoka on 2026. The painting interprets a night scene, with blue as the dominant color. Splashes of yellow in the sky provide a sense of light, while the silhouettes of trees at the bottom form a horizon line.

According to Dewi Mega Hardi, Ashoka's mother, the process of creating the work served as an opportunity for Ashoka to explore the night atmosphere through a blend of colors, shapes, textures, and simple composition.
“The process is part of how Ashoka explores ideas and expresses what is on his mind through drawing,” she explained.
The Night That Holds is a form of visual expression for Ashoka, who has a keen interest in drawing, particularly imaginative works. Throughout his creative process, Ashoka continuously experiments with various color combinations, shapes, and moods to translate the ideas emerging from his imagination into visual media.
The opportunity to participate in this exhibition provides a new experience for Ashoka, allowing him to bring a work born from imagination and drawing into an art space that can be visited and enjoyed by the public.
“The presence of this work aligns with the spirit of the Indonesian Children’s Festival 2026, which provides a space for children to speak, create, and be heard,” she said.
The Kids Art Exhibition is part of the Indonesian Children’s Festival 2026, which carries the theme “A Space to Speak, A Space to Create, and A Space to be Heard.”

The exhibition was held from 19 to 30 September 2026, from 10.00 to 17.00 WIB, at the R.J. Katamsi Gallery, ISI Yogyakarta. The public was invited to visit the exhibition free of charge.
Through this exhibition, children's works are given a space to exist within the art environment, serving as a medium for them to convey their creativity and expression.
“Because every child has a story. Every child has an imagination. And every work has a story to tell,” she concluded.
The Indonesian Children’s Festival 2026 serves as a space that connects children's work and imagination with the public. Through the displayed works, children have the opportunity to express their ideas while introducing their creative results to the community.
