PPK Ormawa

Bogor, JurnalPost.com — The Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Pakuan has implemented biopore holes at several residents' homes and the grounds of SDN Cihideung, Cipelang Village, Cijeruk District, Bogor Regency.

This activity is part of an effort to introduce simple conservation technology that can help increase water absorption while encouraging the management of organic materials in residential and school environments.

The implementation of the biopores involved Alif Nur Setya as the Person in Charge of the Biopore Program, M. Siraajul Kahfi as the Head of the PPK Ormawa BEM FMIPA Universitas Pakuan team, and the community of Cipelang Village.

Several residents, namely Cacih, Nanih, and Rusman, provided areas around their homes as implementation sites. The activity also received support from Mimit, the Head of RT 03 RW 02, Cipelang Village.

Meanwhile, the implementation of biopores in the school environment was carried out in collaboration with the Principal of SDN Cihideung, Priyani.

Alif Nur Setya explained that biopore technology was chosen because it is relatively simple and can be applied directly by the community around their homes.

“We implemented biopores as an effort to help increase water absorption while utilizing organic materials found nearby. The hope is that residents will not only know how to make them but also be able to maintain and apply them independently in their respective environments,” said Alif.

According to him, the success of biopore implementation is not only measured by the number of holes created. Sustainable maintenance is a crucial part of ensuring the holes continue to function optimally.

Therefore, residents were also given an understanding of how to fill the biopore holes with organic materials and perform periodic maintenance.

The Head of the PPK Ormawa BEM FMIPA Universitas Pakuan team, M. Siraajul Kahfi, stated that this implementation is part of the environmental conservation approach developed within the PPK Ormawa program in Cipelang Village.

“We want to show that conservation does not always require complex technology. Simple things like biopores can be part of water and environmental management if done together and maintained sustainably. Therefore, the involvement of the community and schools is an important part of this program,” explained Siraajul.

Involving Residents in Environmental Management

The implementation of biopores in residential areas was carried out by involving the community directly, from determining the points and digging the holes to introducing how to utilize and maintain the biopores.

Mimit, as the Head of RT 03 RW 02, Cipelang Village, believes that this activity can be a simple way to increase residents' awareness of environmental management.

“Activities like this are good for residents because they are applied directly in the home environment. Besides increasing knowledge, the community also learns that there are simple ways to help protect the environment and manage rainwater,” said Mimit.

The residents whose homes were used as implementation sites, namely Cacih, Nanih, and Rusman, were also involved in the creation process, so it is hoped they will have an understanding of the function and maintenance of the biopores after the program concludes.

The creation of biopore holes begins with determining a suitable location, then the ground is drilled using a biopore tool. The hole then functions as a water absorption space and can be filled with organic materials.

The presence of biopores around homes is expected to help rainwater enter the soil, thereby increasing infiltration and contributing to reducing puddles in residential areas.

Biopores as Educational Media at SDN Cihideung

In addition to residents' homes, the PPK Ormawa team also implemented biopores at SDN Cihideung. The implementation at the school is directed not only as a means of conservation but also as an environmental learning medium for students.

Through biopores, students can be introduced directly to the processes of water absorption, soil conservation, the utilization of organic materials, and the importance of maintaining environmental balance.

The Principal of SDN Cihideung, Priyani, said that environmental learning is easier to understand if children can see the practice directly.

“With biopores at school, children can learn directly that protecting the environment is not just about theory. They can see how water and organic materials can be managed through simple methods. This can be a good lesson for building environmental awareness from an early age,” said Priyani.

Biopore holes can be filled with organic materials such as dry leaves and plant waste. Over time, these organic materials will decompose naturally and can produce compost.

With this mechanism, biopores provide dual benefits: as a means to increase water absorption and as a medium for organic waste management.

Encouraging Sustainable Conservation

The PPK Ormawa team also provides guidance to the community and the school regarding the creation, utilization, and maintenance of biopore holes.

This guidance is considered important because the benefits of biopores do not end after the creation process. The holes need to be maintained and the organic materials inside must be managed so that the absorption function continues to work.

For residents, the implementation of this technology is expected to encourage independent environmental management practices by utilizing resources available around their homes.

Meanwhile, at school, the presence of biopores is expected to develop into an environmental education tool that can be used to introduce the relationship between water, soil, organic materials, and ecosystems to students.

This biopore program is also related to the slope conservation activities developed by PPK Ormawa in Cipelang Village.

Increasing infiltration through biopore holes can be one element of rainwater management at the site level. If applied more broadly and combined with vegetation and other soil conservation practices, this approach is expected to support more sustainable environmental management.

Through this program, the PPK Ormawa BEM FMIPA Universitas Pakuan team strives to build collaboration between students, the community, and schools in protecting the environment of Cipelang Village.

In the future, residents and the school are expected to be able to continue biopore maintenance independently while expanding its application according to their respective environmental conditions.

This implementation serves as an example that conservation efforts can begin with simple steps at the household and school levels. With education, community participation, and consistent maintenance, biopores can be part of efforts to build a more adaptive and sustainable environment in Cipelang Village.
