Makassar, JurnalPost.com - The 357th Anniversary of South Sulawesi Province was celebrated with great fanfare in Makassar on Sunday (10/18/2026). In addition to a mass walk attended by thousands of residents, the event series featured a unique sight as regional heads participated in a fried rice cooking competition.

The event, centered at the South Sulawesi Governor's Official Residence, brought together regents and mayors from various regions in a relaxed atmosphere.

The regional leaders, who are usually occupied with government affairs, had the opportunity to showcase their creativity in preparing fried rice dishes.

The cooking competition was one of the highlights of the provincial anniversary, alongside sports activities and a cultural carnival.

Barru Regent and Vice Regent Attend 'Anti Mager' Mass Walk

Before the cooking competition began, thousands of participants took part in the 'Anti Mager' (Anti-Laziness) Mass Walk, which was flagged off by the Governor of South Sulawesi.

Barru Regent Andi Ina Kartika Sari and Vice Regent Abustan A. Bintang were present to lead the Barru Regency contingent.

Starting and finishing at the South Sulawesi Governor's Official Residence, the participants traversed several main roads in Makassar.

The route included Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Haji Bau, Jalan Arif Rate, Jalan Hasanuddin, and Jalan Amanagappa.

The presence of contingents from various regencies and cities made the event vibrant. Participants did not just come to exercise, but also to bring their cultural identity and local characteristics.

Si Naru the Pineapple Mascot Joins the Carnival

One of the most eye-catching appearances came from the Barru Regency contingent, which adopted a plant-themed costume.

The contingent featured 'Si Naru,' a pineapple-shaped mascot used to introduce one of the region's horticultural commodities.

Pineapple is one of the agricultural commodities with significant development potential in Barru Regency.

Through this mascot, the Barru contingent introduced their regional specialty to the public attending the South Sulawesi Anniversary celebration.

The performance demonstrated that cultural carnivals do not only showcase traditional clothing but can also serve as a platform to introduce agricultural products and local economic potential.

Prizes Ranging from Umrah Packages to Electric Motorcycles

In addition to the competitions and carnival, the committee provided various prizes for participants of the 'Anti Mager' Mass Walk.

The prizes included two Umrah packages, two electric motorcycles, ten bicycles, and shopping vouchers.

This series of events is part of the 357th Anniversary celebration of South Sulawesi, involving both the public and local government elements.

The event also brought regional heads together for a shared agenda outside of formal government activities.

For the Barru contingent, this momentum served as an opportunity to participate in the provincial-level celebration while introducing local potential through the Si Naru mascot.

The combination of the mass walk, cultural carnival, and fried rice cooking competition added a distinct flair to this year's South Sulawesi Anniversary celebration.
