Ministry of Religious Affairs distributes aid
The Ministry of Religious Affairs provides recovery assistance to Islamic boarding schools in Aceh following severe flooding.

JurnalPost.com - The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has distributed IDR 65.2 billion in aid to support the recovery of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and Islamic religious education institutions affected by flooding in Aceh. The assistance was provided to 956 institutions through two programs: operational education support and post-disaster infrastructure and facilities aid.

Director General of Islamic Boarding Schools, Basnang Said, stated that the distribution of this aid reflects the Ministry's commitment to ensuring the continuity of education at Islamic boarding schools and religious institutions, particularly in disaster-affected regions.

"Post-disaster recovery for educational institutions requires comprehensive support, both to meet operational needs and to restore facilities and infrastructure. We want to ensure that educational activities continue and that these boarding schools can resume their strategic roles within the community," said Basnang in Jakarta, Tuesday (9/20/2026).

He explained that the Ministry has distributed IDR 15,289,817,140 in Post-Disaster Operational Assistance for Islamic Boarding Schools and Religious Education to 305 institutions. This aid is intended to maintain the continuity of learning activities and educational services for students in the affected areas.

Additionally, the Ministry distributed IDR 49,938,928,000 in Post-Disaster Infrastructure and Facilities Assistance to 651 institutions. This funding is used to support the construction and rehabilitation of buildings, the provision of adequate learning facilities, and the procurement of educational support tools, including information and communication technology equipment.

"This support is expected to accelerate the recovery of affected educational institutions so that the learning process is not interrupted for too long and students can return to learning in a proper environment," he added.

In total, the aid distributed reached IDR 65,228,745,140, or approximately IDR 65.2 billion. The Ministry hopes this support will minimize the impact of the disaster on education delivery while accelerating the recovery of activities at Islamic boarding schools and religious education institutions.

Basnang also emphasized the importance of synergy between the government, boarding school administrators, and various stakeholders to ensure the recovery process is sustainable. By doing so, these institutions can resume their functions in education, religious outreach, and community empowerment.
