JurnalPost.com - Octavia Dingss (born October 16, 1992, Bengkalis Island, Riau Province, Indonesia) is a self-portrait artist whose work explores themes of identity, spirituality, and self-representation. She has been creating self-portraits since the age of 13, embarking on a path of self-discovery that would shape her distinctive artistic voice. Initially, her exploration of self-portrait photography was a deeply personal project, capturing her inner world frame by frame. What began as a personal expression has evolved into a powerful and emotionally expressive art form, gaining recognition for its mystery and introspection.
Octavia is known for her unique approach to the self-portrait genre, often featuring herself in ways that evoke deep emotional and philosophical reflection. Her work frequently portrays her as partially hidden, faceless, or obscured by shadow, inviting the viewer to engage in the complexities of selfhood and identity.
Dingss's experimentation with different photographic formats has significantly enriched her artistic expression. From the grainy textures of analog film to the instantaneous gratification of Polaroid photography, and the precision of digital cameras, Octavia embraced the distinctive qualities of each medium. This exploration was not merely technical but essential to her artistic growth, allowing her to develop a versatile and unique style. The varied textures and aesthetics present in her body of work are a direct result of this eclectic approach, further enhancing the narrative depth of her self-portraits.
Early Life and Artistic Development Raised in a nature-rich environment on Bengkalis Island, Octavia developed a strong connection to the natural world, which remains a prominent influence in her work. Her early interest in art was cultivated through self-exploration and creative experimentation. At the age of 12, Octavia adopted the name "Octavia Dingss," marking a significant personal and artistic transformation. This decision to replace her birth name symbolized the beginning of her artistic self-construction and a shift toward defining her unique identity as an artist.
At 16, Octavia left her hometown to pursue artistic and personal growth, first moving to Batam Island and later to Bali in 2011. In Bali, she immersed herself in the island's diverse and dynamic creative community. Her work in various roles—including wedding planner, photographer, and art director—helped her hone both her creative and organizational skills. During this time, she also became fluent in multiple languages, including English, which broadened her artistic perspective.
Career and Artistic Practice By 2018, Octavia made the decision to dedicate herself fully to her art, transitioning into a career as a multifaceted artist. Alongside self-portraiture, she has worked as a brand ambassador, spiritual medium, art director, and influencer. Her art reflects her intuitive spiritual abilities, blending personal exploration with a deep connection to the metaphysical world. Themes of nature, identity, transformation, and the mysteries of existence are central to her work, which resonates on both emotional and intellectual levels.

Octavia's art practice is further distinguished by her role as a spiritual medium and mystic. Her unique ability to channel spiritual messages and insights informs both her creative and personal life, influencing the narratives within her work.
Near Death Experiences, Leukemia Diagnosis, Divine Intervention, and a Miracle Recovery In 2021-2022, Octavia underwent a profound transformation following three near-death experiences (NDEs). These life-altering encounters significantly impacted her spiritual outlook and artistic direction, adding layers of depth and introspection to her work. In her reflections, she shared how these NDEs shaped her worldview and artistic practice, reinforcing the importance of self-awareness and spiritual growth.
One of the more significant changes Octavia experienced after her NDEs was a dietary shift. After being a vegetarian for over 15 years, she transitioned to a non-vegetarian diet, a decision she described as confusing yet guided by her intuition and the advice of her spiritual guides. This transformation was an integral part of her journey to regain stability and adapt to her earthly existence, highlighting the profound connection between her spiritual awakening and personal choices.
Following her NDE, Octavia made significant lifestyle changes. As someone deeply sensitive to energy with high empathy, she previously avoided consuming animals, but since October 2022, she began incorporating fish and chicken into her diet, feeling that her body needed this adjustment for better acceptance after her NDE.
n 2022, Octavia Dingss received a life-altering diagnosis: leukemia. However, instead of following the standard medical treatment prescribed by her doctors, Octavia made a bold decision to trust in her own healing journey, guided by intuition, spiritual connections, and natural remedies. She felt a deep sense of spiritual support from her guardian angels and her beloved grandmother, whose presence she felt strongly, even from beyond.
Her weight dropped significantly—losing 35 kilograms in the early stages of her illness—and she faced other challenges such as severe allergies and frequent bruising. Yet, despite these physical changes, Octavia remained steadfast in her belief that the combination of her spiritual practices, dietary adjustments, and deep connection to nature were the key to her recovery.
Octavia's path was unconventional. She sought solace in sacred places and connected with the healing energies of nature. One of the most pivotal moments in her healing journey was her time spent on Nusa Penida Island in Bali, known for its powerful spiritual energy. She also traveled to Krabi and other sacred locations in Thailand, immersing herself in the calming presence of these places for several months. During her travels, she followed a strict new diet, making a significant shift to a non-vegetarian lifestyle, which she believed supported her body’s healing process.
Remarkably, when Octavia returned for her second medical check-up after months of self-healing, the results showed that her body was free of cancer. The doctors were stunned. There was no trace of leukemia left in her system.
Octavia’s story is one of hope and faith. It is a testament to the power of listening to one's intuition, the importance of spiritual guidance, and the potential for healing through natural methods. Her hope is that by sharing her journey, others who are struggling with health challenges might find inspiration and strength. She encourages those who are facing difficult times to believe in the miracles that are possible when one aligns with their inner wisdom, prayers, and the healing forces of the universe.
