East Manggarai, JurnalPost.com – The Ukhuwah Al-Fatah Rescue (UAR) team began construction on a dwelling for the family of Abdul Karim, a survivor of the earthquake in Waso Hamlet, Satar Kampas Village, North Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday (9/26/2026).
The construction is part of a program to provide temporary housing for six families in Waso Hamlet who were left without homes following the disaster.
The housing program is being carried out by UAR with the support of several donors, including PT TPPI Tuban, East Java, and other parties contributing to the humanitarian effort.
UAR volunteer Ayub stated that construction for the Abdul Karim family began on Saturday morning.
“Praise be to God, this Saturday morning (9/26/2026), the UAR team, in collaboration with PT TPPI Tuban, is able to deliver the temporary housing program to the family of Mr. Abdul Karim, a disaster survivor in Waso Hamlet,” Ayub said in a video recording shared on Saturday.
The construction is being carried out through a collaborative effort between UAR volunteers and local residents. The project is expected to help the Abdul Karim family secure more decent living conditions following the earthquake.
In the same video, Abdul Karim and his son, Furqon, expressed their gratitude to the donors and volunteers who have assisted their family.
“Thank you very much to the donors and the Ukhuwah Al-Fatah Rescue volunteers who have helped us. May your provisions be increased and may you always be blessed,” said Furqon.
First Shelter Occupied
Of the six temporary housing units included in the UAR program in Waso Hamlet, one has been completed and is now occupied by the family of Sanusi, a local community leader.
The semi-permanent structure now serves as a home for Sanusi and his family, who previously had to live in evacuation tents.
As a gesture of gratitude for receiving the new home, the Sanusi family held a simple gathering on Thursday morning (9/24/2026). The event was attended by UAR volunteers and local residents.
The event also included a joint prayer for the safety, health, and prosperity of the Sanusi family and the people of Waso Hamlet. The prayer was led by H. Mughiroh, a UAR volunteer from the Greater Jakarta area.
Although the unit is habitable, some parts of the building are still being finished. Volunteers and local residents are still performing additional work, including painting the walls.
UAR General Chairman H. Endang Sudrajat hopes that all temporary housing construction and home repairs for residents will be completed before the end of September 2026.
“Hopefully, by the end of this September, before the closure, all temporary housing units can be handed over and utilized by the eligible survivors,” said Endang Sudrajat.
Nearly Seven Weeks at the Disaster Site
The UAR team has been in the earthquake-affected area for nearly seven weeks. During this period, volunteers have carried out various humanitarian activities to assist the people of Waso Hamlet.
The assistance provided includes not only the construction and repair of homes but also the fulfillment of basic needs, healthcare services, and psychosocial support for affected residents.
These activities were carried out in stages, adapting to the needs of the residents following the disaster.
The series of UAR humanitarian activities in East Manggarai is scheduled to conclude with a joint prayer session with the earthquake-affected community in Waso Hamlet.
The agenda is also planned to include a sermon from UAR leadership and religious figures in East Nusa Tenggara.
The joint prayer serves as one of the final activities after volunteers have conducted humanitarian responses for several weeks in the region.
The event is intended to provide a space for residents and volunteers to pray together for the safety, health, and strength of the Waso Hamlet community as they continue their lives and recover from the disaster.
