JurnalPost.com - The development of digital technology has brought major changes to the world of marketing. Companies no longer rely solely on direct sales, exhibitions, business meetings, or conventional marketing networks to introduce products and build relationships with customers.

This shift is also occurring in the agribusiness sector. The use of digital technology opens opportunities for companies to expand their market reach, improve communication with partners, and showcase how agricultural products are processed before reaching the consumer.

In agribusiness, a company's activities are not just about buying and selling commodities. Behind every product lies a long chain involving farmers, suppliers, harvest managers, distributors, logistics personnel, and customers.

Therefore, digital marketing can be utilized not just to offer products, but also to demonstrate the processes, quality, partnerships, innovation, and value built by the company throughout the agribusiness chain.

Agribusiness Marketing Challenges

Marketing in the agribusiness sector has characteristics that are quite different from marketing consumer products in general.

The availability and quality of agricultural products are heavily influenced by many factors, such as seasons, weather, land conditions, commodity prices, post-harvest processes, production capacity, and distribution efficiency.

Agribusiness companies are often better known among business partners than the general public. Yet, these companies play a broad role, ranging from connecting farmers to markets, maintaining harvest quality, managing distribution, to meeting specific customer needs.

This situation indicates that companies need a more active public communication strategy.

The public and potential partners need to obtain easily understood information regarding products, partnership systems, business processes, quality standards, innovation, and the company's contribution to the community's economy.

Digitalization can be a means to bridge these needs.

Digital Content to Introduce Agribusiness Processes

One strategy companies can implement is developing content-based marketing or content marketing.

The content created does not always have to be in the form of advertisements or product promotions. Companies can produce various educational materials regarding agriculture, commodities, harvest quality standards, food safety, agricultural technology, and distribution processes.

For example, a video about a commodity's journey from the farmer to the customer can be compelling communication material.

The public can be shown how products are received from farmers, quality-checked, stored, processed if necessary, and finally shipped to customers.

Information like this provides an overview that agribusiness products go through a structured management process and involve many parties before reaching the market.

Stories about farmer partners can also be developed as part of the company's communication strategy.

The experiences of farmers in participating in partnership programs, improving production quality, using new technology, or expanding their business capacity can be presented through articles, photos, infographics, or videos.

A storytelling approach makes company communication feel more personal because the public sees not only the product but also the people behind the production process.

The company can then be recognized not just as a buyer or distributor of commodities, but as a partner that helps build value alongside farmers and the community.

Utilizing Social Media and Websites

Social media is a relatively fast communication channel that allows companies to interact directly with the public.

Instagram, for instance, can be used to showcase field activities, company facilities, product processing, activities with farmers, and educational information about commodities.

YouTube can be used for content requiring longer explanations, such as business process documentation, interviews with farmers, educational videos, and the introduction of technology in agricultural activities.

Meanwhile, LinkedIn can be directed toward building a professional company image, introducing business collaborations, innovations, partnership opportunities, and recruitment needs.

In addition to social media, the website must remain the company's official information hub.

The company site should not just contain a brief profile and office address. Information regarding products, services, partnerships, quality, company activities, social programs, the latest news, and business communication channels should be clearly available.

An informative website can help increase company credibility.

For potential customers and business partners, comprehensive information is one of the factors used to assess a company's professionalism and readiness before establishing a partnership.

Developing Data-Driven Marketing

One of the advantages of digital marketing is its ability to generate data that can be used to evaluate marketing strategies.

Companies can track how many people visit the site, which content is read most often, the visitors' regions of origin, the level of interaction on social media, and the number of potential customers contacting the company through digital channels.

This information can help companies understand customer behavior and market developments.

Several indicators can be used for evaluation, such as website visit numbers, social media interaction, business customer growth, the number of inquiries, repeat purchase rates, and customer satisfaction levels.

From this data, companies can answer various important questions.

What kind of content is most in demand? Which platform generates the most potential customers? Which region has the greatest market potential? Which communication channel provides the most effective results?

With a data-driven approach, marketing decisions can be made more measurably rather than relying solely on assumptions.

Showcasing Sustainability Values

Sustainability is a key issue in the development of modern industry, including the agribusiness sector.

Customers, business partners, investors, and the public are increasingly interested in knowing how a company conducts its business and its impact on the environment and society.

Agribusiness companies can communicate various activities related to sustainability, such as partnerships with farmers, community empowerment, improving agricultural quality, reducing post-harvest losses, supply chain efficiency, and the use of technology in production activities.

However, communication regarding sustainability must be carried out responsibly.

Every piece of information conveyed should have a basis in real activities and, if possible, be supported by verifiable data.

Making exaggerated claims can actually lead to distrust in the company.

Conversely, honest communication can help build a positive reputation.

Companies are not only judged based on product quality or price, but also on the benefits provided to farmers, customers, the community, and the environment.

Tailoring Communication to Target Audiences

Agribusiness companies interact with various groups that have different information needs.

Industrial customers and distributors, for example, usually require more information regarding product quality, supply volume, price, continuity of availability, and delivery accuracy.

Farmers and suppliers have different needs. They tend to require information regarding partnership systems, product quality requirements, payment mechanisms, mentoring, and cooperation opportunities.

Meanwhile, the general public might be more interested in how the company contributes to farmers, food security, agricultural innovation, and community empowerment.

Therefore, companies cannot use a single form of communication for all audiences.

Messages need to be adjusted to the characteristics of the group being targeted.

This strategy ensures that digital marketing does not stop at high view counts but is truly capable of reaching groups relevant to the company's goals.

Human Resources and Message Consistency

Digital transformation also requires readiness in human resources.

Companies need personnel who understand content creation, social media management, digital marketing, data analysis, and public communication.

Coordination between departments is also an important part.

The marketing team cannot work alone when the information needed comes from operations, procurement, information technology, production, or partnership relations departments.

Each unit needs to have a shared understanding of what information can be conveyed to the public.

Message consistency must also be maintained.

Information regarding product quality, service, partnership programs, and sustainability activities must be accurate and in accordance with actual conditions.

Misinformation, no matter how small, can affect the level of trust customers and partners have in the company.

Building Competitiveness through Digitalization

Digital marketing is ultimately not just a means to promote products.

For agribusiness companies, digitalization can be an instrument to introduce business processes, build stronger relationships with farmers, increase customer trust, and strengthen the company's reputation.

The ability to maintain product quality, manage supply chains, build partnerships, and meet customer needs are advantages that need to be communicated more openly to the public.

When these operational strengths are combined with the right digital communication strategy, companies have a greater opportunity to reach a wider market.

Ultimately, agribusiness companies that are able to convey information in an engaging, consistent, transparent, and data-driven manner will have stronger competitiveness.

Digitalization not only helps companies become more widely known but can also build an image as a modern, professional, and trusted company capable of providing benefits to various parties.
