SOUTH TANGERANG, JurnalPost.com – Complaints of lower back pain or Low Back Pain (LBP) can arise from daily habits involving improper body positioning. From sitting for too long and lifting heavy objects to using mobile phones, daily activities can cause discomfort if performed without considering ergonomic principles.
To raise public awareness about the importance of spinal health, a team of lecturers from the Industrial Engineering Study Program at Universitas Pamulang held a Community Service (PkM) program titled “Ergonomic Posture Education for Daily Activities to Prevent Low Back Pain in Buaran Village, South Tangerang” from October 16–18, 2026.
The activity, held in Buaran Village, South Tangerang, under the leadership of Village Head Linda Hermawati, S.E., focused on providing practical knowledge and skills regarding the application of safe body posture in daily activities.

The head of the PkM proposal team, Irma Novianti, S.T., M.T., explained that this education aims to help the community understand simple habits that can be applied to reduce the risk of lower back pain.
Through a low-cost ergonomics approach, residents were introduced to various techniques for maintaining body posture without requiring special equipment or significant costs.
During the educational session, Nia Kurniasih, S.T., M.M., as the speaker, provided explanations regarding the correct spinal position when performing various physical activities. The material was delivered not only through theory but also through demonstrations and hands-on practice with the participants.
Residents were invited to practice safe lifting techniques, improve their sitting posture, and understand how to use mobile phones without putting excessive pressure on the neck and back.
In addition, participants received guidance on simple stretches that can be performed independently to help reduce muscle tension caused by repetitive activities or prolonged static body positions.
Evaluation Results Show Improved Resident Understanding
The activity also included filling out questionnaires to determine the participants' initial conditions and to evaluate their understanding after attending the education.
Based on the pre-activity questionnaire results, all participants, or 100 percent, reported having experienced Low Back Pain that interfered with their daily activities. Some participants were also unfamiliar with the term LBP or safe lifting techniques.
After completing the series of educational sessions, the evaluation results showed that 84.6 percent of participants had mastered the ergonomic posture and independent stretching techniques introduced during the activity.
Meanwhile, as many as 92.3 percent of participants expressed a commitment to applying ergonomic habits in their daily activities.
These results indicate an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of maintaining body posture. However, consistent application of ergonomic habits remains necessary for the benefits of the education to be felt in the long term.
Through this community service activity, the Universitas Pamulang Industrial Engineering lecturer team hopes that the residents of Buaran Village will pay more attention to their spinal health, whether at work, doing household chores, or carrying out other activities.
Irma Novianti hopes that the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants will not end after the activity concludes, but can be practiced independently and shared with family members and the surrounding community.
By implementing simple changes in daily habits, the community is expected to be able to reduce risk factors for lower back pain while building a safer, more comfortable, and healthier pattern of activity.
