JurnalPost.com - In today's world, being a good citizen means more than just following rules and fulfilling obligations like paying taxes. The evolution of technology and social media requires society to also be smart citizens who are capable of receiving, understanding, and conveying information.

We must be able to distinguish between accurate information and misleading content, have the courage to express opinions appropriately, and continue to respect the views of others. In this context, Constitutional Law (HTN) plays a vital role in shaping smart citizens or smart citizens as well as responsible citizens or good citizens.

Fundamentally, Constitutional Law studies how a state is governed, how power is distributed, how state institutions function, and the relationship between the state and its citizens.

By understanding Constitutional Law, the public can identify their rights and obligations as citizens. They can also understand which institutions have the authority to make specific decisions and how government mechanisms should operate.

This knowledge is crucial so that the public does not merely accept every government policy without understanding the process. Instead, citizens can be more critical, recognize the limits of state institutional authority, and participate in overseeing the government within a democratic framework.

Constitutional Law in the Digital Era

Understanding Constitutional Law has become increasingly relevant in the digital era. Today, almost everyone can express their opinions via social media. The public can provide feedback, criticism, and input on government policies quickly and openly.

Freedom of expression is a vital part of democratic life. However, this freedom must be exercised responsibly.

The desire to express an opinion should not lead someone to spread fake news, engage in insults, attack others personally, or disseminate unverified information.

Therefore, it is not enough for the public to simply understand that they have freedom of speech. They must also realize that every right comes with corresponding responsibilities.

It is in this regard that an understanding of law and constitutional systems can help the public utilize the democratic space more wisely.

Understanding the Constitution as a Citizen

Constitutional Law can also help raise public awareness regarding the constitution. The constitution is not merely material studied to earn grades in school or university; it has a direct connection to the lives of people as citizens.

The right to education, freedom of expression, the right to protection and legal certainty, and various obligations as citizens all have foundations in the Indonesian constitutional system.

By understanding the constitution, the public can identify the rights they possess while also understanding the obligations they must fulfill.

This understanding is also important so that the public can recognize when policies or actions require criticism through the proper mechanisms.

Thus, the public does not just view the state as an institution that regulates collective life, but also understands their own position and role within that system.

Building Smart and Good Citizenship

Ultimately, building smart and good citizenship is not solely the government's task. The public also has a responsibility to help create a democratic, orderly, and just national life.

Constitutional Law can serve as an essential foundation for the public to understand rules, rights, obligations, and the operational methods of state institutions.

With this understanding, it is hoped that the public will not only know the law in theory but will also be able to apply the values of law and democracy in their daily lives.

Becoming a smart and responsible citizen can actually start with simple things. For example, searching for and verifying information before sharing it, not easily believing hoaxes, respecting differences of opinion, following rules, and having the courage to express criticism politely and based on facts.

Such attitudes become increasingly important as people's lives become more connected to the digital space.

Ultimately, Constitutional Law should not be understood only as a theory regarding the state, the constitution, and power. More than that, it can serve as a basis for building public awareness to become more critical, intelligent, law-abiding, and responsible Indonesian citizens.
